Sara Burke, Senior Policy AnalystSara focuses on economic and social policies discussed within the United Nations, the IMF, World Bank and G20. She has edited publications on sovereign debt crises, financial crises, financial regulation, the G20 and the global reserve system. Since coming to the FES in 2008, Sara has organized conferences at Brookings, the United Nations, Columbia University and the World Bank on issues in global governance including financing sustainable energy policies, reforming the world reserve system, re-defining paradigms of development, regulation of banks excessive risk, and addressing the consequences of the 2008-9 financial crisis on developing countries. She worked previously producing web features for Time.com, CondeNet and the webzine Gloves Off. Sara has a Masters in Communication from Stanford University, graduate work in economics at the New School for Social Research, and a BA from Reed College. |
Volker Lehmann, Ph.D. – Senior Policy Analyst

Dr. Werner Puschra is the Executive Director of the New York office of the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung. Previously, he was the Head of the Africa Department at FES Headquarters in Bonn. He also served as resident director of the foundation’s field offices in Peru (1986-1990), South Korea (1990 – 1994) and Egypt (1994 – 2000). He holds an MA in Economics and a Ph.D. in Political Science from the Free University of Berlin.
Jennifer Landt is the Finance and Operations Manager of the New York Office. She joined the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung in 2008. Previously, she obtained a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Rostock in Germany. She is responsible for all operational and financial matters and is the leading hand in the organization of programs.
Volker Lehmann is a Senior Policy Analyst with the FES New York office. He currently focuses on international peace and security issues, particularly with regards to the United Nations, and on the various aspects of reforming the UN. He previously worked as a consultant and journalist, and he was the editor of the journal “Biotechnology and Development Monitor” at the University of Amsterdam. He obtained a Masters in Biology from the Free University of Berlin and a Ph.D. in Political Science from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York.
