In response to recent economic crises, an increasingly large group of high-ranking economists, political advisers and think tanks in the US and the United Nations are seriously re-evaluating economic theory as well as policy. In Europe, Social Democratic Parties and leaders are also debating how to restructure the economy and society in order to better deal with the economic, social and environmental challenges of the twenty-first century, which transcend national borders.
Therefore the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) New York office organized a small and informal roundtable meeting and working lunch where alternatives to mainstream economic models and new thinking about economic policy were discussed.
